A SIGNIFICANT PART OF YOU WILL STAY WITH US FOREVER

"It doesn't matter when you lose someone, it's always too early and it always hurts." Thank you Edi, for all your know-how, your daily drive despite your medical history and thank you for passing on your knowledge in all areas! An invaluable asset!

Edi Dürr passed away on April 10, 2024 and now watches over Nice View from above.

Papa Edi, as everyone called him, had shown a very big heart again and again over the many years of his creative power and helped make Nice View what it is today. The many setbacks and disappointments left their mark on him, but he never gave up and pulled the strings of this unique aid project every day. His many hospital stays and his unfortunately often very poor health never stopped him from giving his all for the ever-growing Nice View family. Over the past 27 years, the bush land purchased at the time has been transformed into a remarkable project that provides many people with a safe home, provides education, enables the residents of Msambweni to receive basic medical care and creates many jobs.

He passed on his knowledge with a lot of sweat, Papa Edi always had an answer ready for every situation, gave advice and simply lent a hand.

He lived by the motto “Creating future prospects in the country of origin”.

We will all miss Papa Edi very much and he will leave a gap that will be difficult to fill.

We cannot find words that would really do justice to the thanks you deserve.

“His wishes were fulfilled far from another hospital visit. With this “Nice View”, he was allowed to lie in his room until the funeral and fell asleep pain-free on April 10, 2024 between 2 and 3 in the morning.

Now he is dressed in his favorite white T-shirt and sweatpants. Now he watches from above and looks down on a beautiful place created with a lot of sweat.

He will always be in the heart of the Big Nice View family and will certainly have a wonderful place with a great view and positive thoughts.

We are incredibly proud of what he was able to accomplish every day despite all the adversities…

In best memory of Dad, Grandpa Edi, buddy and jack-of-all-trades in all areas. The foundation you created is solidly built 🍀🕊️

Rest in peace 🕯️ “

from Marcel Dürr

I came to your shores as a stranger,
I dwelt in your house as a guest,
I leave your threshold as a friend,
my earth.

The large Nice View family bid a fitting farewell to their Edi.

A brief rumble in the distance. One or two flashes of lightning briefly lit up the sky. Then the clouds moved away.

Over 100 candles lit up the Nice View forecourt on a clear Kenyan fall night. A large photo of Edi in the center. A final farewell.

Anyone who wanted to say something was allowed to come to the center and give free rein to their thoughts.

A memorable moment was when 9-year-old Nathalie walked into the middle of the circle of tea lights, stood in front of Edi and said the following:

“Thank you for the food, for the school, for my bed and for all the houses.”

Nathalie turned around silently and sat back down between her siblings.

A shooting star actually burned up in the sky.
Long after we had said goodbye to Edi, the children sat in silence and said goodbye.

Its final foundation

Expansion of kindergarten and social office

Edi started his latest project in March: The expansion of the Nice View Kindergarten and construction of a social office.

This building project could be launched thanks to the donation of 33,000 euros from our association Herz in Afrika .

Thanks to the Nice View Trust Foundation’s construction team, which has been trained by Edi and has been working together for decades, we are sure  that these and other buildings and renovations at Nice View will be carried out successfully. As Marcel said: “The foundation you have created, Edi, is solidly built!”
